Flipverse - The Journey of Flipkart Grid Challenge πŸš€
O

I am a Fullstack developer, formed through the love of designing and building wonderlicious internet-things. Currently I am a student at D.Y. Patil College of Engineering, Pune. 😎 The goal is simple; to create excellent websites/apps that make me shine and my ego soar. 🀩

hello

It was just a normal day when I got a message from Dhruv Kothari on Super 30 (our small community) of Web Dev saying "Guys team banao and aag lagao πŸ”₯" with a registration link for Flipkart Grid 4.0 Hackathon. I didn't have any such motivation to participate in this hackathon but I thought let's give it a try. πŸ‘€

What is Flipkart Grid? πŸ€”

Later after some research, πŸ” I got to know that GRiD is Flipkart’s Flagship Engineering Campus Challenge which provides you with the opportunity to apply your technical knowledge and skills, to compete and complete key challenges.
It has three levels namely,
πŸ“Œ Level 1: E-Commerce & Tech Quiz.
πŸ“Œ An coding round to get an interview call. (only if you qualify the Level 1)
πŸ“Œ Level 2: Submission of Proof of Concept with Demo Video and Code Submission.
πŸ“Œ Level 3: The National Finale.
More info here.

Building team & choosing problem statement 😎

I made my team by considering all perspectives like UI/UX, Frontend as well as Backend. I myself worked on the frontend part, the backend was handled by Nishant Bhosale & the eye catchy designs were made by Saurabh Barde

We were qualified for Level 2.

We were thinking of learning WEB 3.0 and luckily we got a problem statement on it in the hackathon so we selected it as our priority. After a few days that problem statement was allocated to us and we started learning Web 3.0 & Blockchain-related things from here.

Coding round πŸ§‘β€πŸ’»

This round was only for those who were qualified for Level 2. In this round, there were 3 coding questions out of which I was able to solve 2 questions (first completely and the second partially). Unluckily I was not selected for the interview, but the questions were so good. The difficulty level was easy, medium, and hard for respective questions.

Solving the problem statement πŸ₯Έ

You can see the end product here. It took us 10+ days to understand the problem statement and make a scalable architecture for the same. Everything was new to us and it was fun to learn the same. After 10 days we were ready with the architecture and tech stack. We used ReactJS & CSS modules for the frontend part, NodeJS, ExpressJs, & MongoDB for the backend, & Figma for designing. The next few days were full of git commits, push & pull requests.

We first thought of completing the backend and frontend part of the website & then jump to the Web 3.0 part. The Web 2.0 part gets completed merely in 3-4 days later we focused completely on the Web 3.0 functionalities. There were a huge number of errors in this part but Nishant handled it very well. Saurabh had also completed the designing part till now and focusing on improving the UX of the website.

We were so near to the deadline. The PPT presentation, demo video, & so many UI changes were remaining. On the day of submission at 5'o clock in the evening, I got an error on the client side. We debugged our code for 2 hrs but were of no use. Later we decided to move without those UI changes and focused on making the demo video and PPT.

But while making the video Nishant's Laptop got super slowed and he was unable to record the audio in it. Luckily I know Video Editing and how to add audio to a video. So I started writing the script and somehow synced the audio to it but it was already 11 o'clock and the deadline was 12. We were so panicked at this time but luckily the deadline was extended to the next day till 6'o clock in the morning. Later I finished adding my voice to the video and completed the PPT with Saurabh. We successfully submitted everything at 1 o'clock.🀩

Finally the results. πŸ˜‡

We were not selected, but this was a great experience of leading a team like this and we all learned a lot. Yes, you heard it right! They only selected three teams for each problem statement. (Total 9 teams were selected)

It's Not Over When You Lose it's Over When You Quit! πŸ‘€
We will participate again next year. 😎

Flipkart Grid 4.0 was really a worthful experience . Getting an chance to work with You and Nishant was a great opportunity for me. This hackathon not only pushed my limits of designing but also made more wiser in more aspects as well. One last thing this Hackathon was not just an competition but an Journey worth remembering.
